Here we go…

I have decided to take on a blog to share not only my pictures with you but some recipes, tips, and maybe even some kitchen gadgets and food reviews. We love cooking and baking (I’ll leave the baking to Jess) but most of you don’t get the opportunity to taste our creations. This makes us sad. So, we decided that we are going to start sharing not only or mouth-watering photographs but also our recipes, tips, and tricks so you can make the same delicious dishes at home!

I know, you are thinking to yourself, “Self, how on EARTH can I make something like Dan and Jess?!” Don’t worry. Like I say to anyone who asks how I learned to cook, if you can read, you can cook. Just follow along and give it a shot. If you’re stuck and have questions feel free to reach out. Worst case- you set off a few smoke alarms and order a pizza.

Food is something that has always been an important part of my life.  From pretending to be a chef with my parents’ Tupperware containers as a kid to pursuing a degree in Hospitality Management in college, food has always been present.  I even wrote a poem in grade school about wanting to work in a restaurant:

“Will I get the job at McDonald’s

It means a lot to me

Life would be better with this job, I think

Life should be better, not if my uniform is pink“

The name Blue Willow Plate comes from a gorgeous set of Blue Willow china that I acquired from my Grandma Kotula.  I remember eating off of these very dishes on special occasions as a kid at my grandmother’s house and am honored to be able to use the same dishes today in my home.

The plan is to try and post at least one recipe a week as time permits. As I get better at this I’ll probably try and post more. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions drop me a line. This should be fun!
